This is what's wrong with young 'gamers'.Ĭan't even remember what things were like before the carrot or why people normally play games. Reraised the bar for me for what I expect from an action game gameplay wise. Gives all the pluses of loot games, without the need to sell the same staff of sword to a town vendor 365,256 times. I'd be very happy if there were more ARPG's like Secrets of Mana, personally. Thus, one weapon doesn't outclass the other, making each find useful. They seem to really wanna make each item bring something new to the gameplay, so that you don't get "better" items, you just get items that give you new ways to do things. I also think you'll end up liking Bastion (also XBLA). It appears to have loot more in line with something like Ys, as in each item you get is useful, dynamic in design, and can actually change your attacks and gameplay style. (The second game improves on this thankfully.)Īnd then you have something like the upcoming Crimson Alliance (XBLA), which seems streamlined. There were no set bonuses, no new animations, it was all just a new look on something dull, that didn't even look THAT much cooler. It was all somewhat different looking, but there was no reason to get most of it, as nothing REALLY changed with new loot. For example, I hated the looting in Deathspank. For me, it all depends on what it brings with it.
